Hey everyone, we now have new forums! This is a place to meet mechanics and discuss anything related to bikes in k'ville. Also, be sure to keep an eye on our Hours/Calendar page for posted shop hours.
Hello! You are receiving this notice because you are a newly registered bike co-op member (Congratulations!) and have expressed an interest in what we are doing.
I would first like to invite you to an informational meeting about what the co-op does and what the co-op hopes to be in the future. Most importantly, it will be about how YOU can help the co-op realize its potential. We will discuss current things you can do (in the scope of this semester), or (if you are too busy now) how you can plug in later. We are seeking mechanics, mechanics-in-training, people to train mechanics, accounts, programmers, public relations coordinators, and more! Time commitments vary based on your availability! Scholarship positions are available! We would also like to work with people who will be here over the summer! There are lots of opportunities to do good work! The informational meeting will take place this Wednesday at 6pm in MG2050.
Secondly, I would like to inform our membership about some of the realities of our organization is facing and ask for your flexibility and feedback. Our grand opening event was well received and attended…thanks for your support! However, as a group we have realized that more time must be invested in training our mechanics and the people who will be the public face of the co-op. For our first semester in operation, we will limit our open hours to Saturday afternoons from 12-3pm. In the mean time, we will be having three regular training sessions a week for those who are interested in becoming mechanics for the shop (please email if you are interested in participating). As these resources have been lacking for so long, it will take some time to build up our mechanic base. Thank you for your patience! If you would like to contract with a mechanic independent of the bike co-op, we can put you in contact with some reliable ones. Please contact us at kirksvillebikecoop@gmail.com for more information.
Finally, we would like to invite you to give us feedback as we work through discovering the best way to meet the needs of our community. You can email any time or post comments on our website forum. In the future, we will have a suggestion box in the shop. Your constructive comments are encouraged!
Thank you for your warm reception and support.
Sincerely,
Cassie Phillips
